Default 6.2.4 CE Installer hangs at "Creating Sugar application tables"

    Hi-

I'm trying to install Sugar 6.2.4 CE onto an OpenSUSE 11.4 box. PHP 5.3.8 and MySQL 5.1.53

I copied over the files and tweaked the php.ini as described in the install instructions. I am able to make it all the way through the install script including the steps where the installer checks the dependencies of the system and confirms that it can access the mysql database, and PHP version and modules are OK.

Then in the final step, when I click "Install" the installer bombs out at the table creation step "Creating Sugar application tables, audit tables and relationship metadata". I checked the sugarcrm.log and install.log files and they indicate that the installer is failing when it tries to create the first table (acl?)

But the database and accounts exist and have the needed privileges (I checked by logging in to mysql and executing 'SHOW GRANTS' for the accounts). No PHP or MySQL errors are being generated.

This machine is behind a firewall.

Does the installer currently being packaged with 6.2.4 work? I noticed one bug in it where the checkbox for automatically checking for updates is always set to yes...

Can anyone offer some advice or assistance? Thanks.

P.S.- I have installed previous versions of SugarCRM without any problems like this, so I'm wondering what could be going on.

Actually the error is due a database failure. The message you just reported is the clue to identify what SugarCRM tried to do.
SugarCRM were not able to access the database, probably due a permission issue.

Take a look at sugarcrm.log to identify what is wrong.

Is it possible to improve the Sugar installer so that it can auto-detect conditions like the one Andopes describes :

It would be amazing if the Sugar installer would simply check the permissions granted to the database user ID that it's trying to install the Sugar-required tables and relationships into the database as - notice when they're insufficient, and immediately say "Whoa. Wait a minute. The database user ID does not have permission to Create Sugar application tables, audit tables and relationship metadata. Would you like to grant this permission to the database user ID?"

And once the required permissions are automatically granted, simply smoothly proceed forwards to successful completion of the install, instead of bombing out with a cryptic error message that scares the newer users who haven't installed Sugar 1000 times already and know these terse error messages inside and out, and how to get around them in 30 seconds.

"It's nice when the crash error handling tells you WHAT happened, but it's gotten to be standard nowadays for it to tell you WHY and OFFER to automatically fix it for you."
