Cannot configure email

I cannot seem to configure email for my installation of the Community Edition Version 6.3.0beta5 (Build 6843). Whenever I attempt to send a test email, I receive a modal dialog entitled "Performing Task" with the message "One moment please...". The moment goes on forever; the dialog never goes away. The button is obviously corrupted with an "undefined" label.

This is obviously critical functionality. I have searched the FAQs and Support forum in vain. Can anyone suggest how to resolve this issue?
