    Default Error 1045: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'

    I am trying to install SurgarCRM 4.5.1b on my MacBook Pro 2.0GHz with OS X 10.4.9. I downloaded the Bitrock installer and ran the installation. After everything was installed by the installer, it opened a web browser window with http://192.168.0.6:8080/sugarcrm/install.php in the address bar. I got to step 3 and am not able to get past it. I don't know if I need to check the create database or user boxes and what the root directory password is. I have tried all different combinations and have not had any luck. I used the same password as my Mac OS X administrator password, so there is no other password to enter. I know that if it needs a password that I created in the setup or on my OS, it is typed correctly here. I have tried to install this several times and even on two different MacBooks with no success. The full error message is as follows:

    Database admin user name and/or password is invalid (Error 1045: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)).

    I have read and searched the forums and web and can't find the answer to this. I have read that I may need to set permissions in MySQL, but I don't even know how to get to the MySQL prompt. I am not a programmer or developer. I just want to try this out and eventually have someone else help me customize this for my business. I ma frustrated. I have been using the online evaluation of SugarCRM and like it very much. However, I really want to use some of the plugins available because of some of my specific needs. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    As this is first time installation mysql so there is no password set for root. If you are not sure where your mysql is installed then search for mysql binary.

    In the terminal type:

    $find / -type f -name "mysql"

    Based on the result navigate to the dir then type
    $mysql
    and you will be inside the mysql prompt, then set the root password for mysql

    mysql>use mysql;
    mysql>update user set Password=PASSWORD('NewPass') where User='root';
    mysql> flush privileges;
    mysql>exit

    And it will be good to create one database for sugar and one user/password for this database and use these parameter while installing sugar (at step 3)

    To create one db in mysql

    $mysql -u root -p //now use the root password previously set)
    mysql> create database MyDB;
    mysql> grant all on MyDB.* to MyUser@localhost identified by 'MyPass';
    mysql> flush privileges;
    mysql>exit

    Are you trying to import a database dump by command line?
    Are you sure you have the correct password for mysql user root?

    Cheers
