Error on upgrade from 6.1.6 to 6.2.3 version

Hi,

I use 6.1.6 version and I am trying to upgrade to 6.2.3 version, but I receive an error message at the end of upgrade process:
"Database Error. Please verify on sugarcrm.log for details."

I saw in the last line in SUGARCRM.LOG and says that:
"Tue Oct 18 06:06:26 2011 [21800][1][FATAL] Query Failed: SELECT id FROM upgrade_history ORDER BY date_entered desc: MySQL error 2006: MySQL server has gone away"

I made the sugar backup before the upgrade then I can restore without problems.

Someone can help?

Hello,

This error can happen for several reasons.

First question is do you have a lot of records in sugarcrm?

Second question what is the database configuration you are using? More specifically you should check to see if the mysql server is maxed out on CPU and/or IO (reading and writing to the disk). This can sometimes make it seem like it is non responsive while doing major operations and this can be interpreted as a disconnect to the database when really it is executing something that has a lot of IO. I would look at the MySQL logs. and especially the slow query logs will give you a clue as to why it fails.

You might also want to use the silent upgrade option instead of the browser upgrade as this bypasses the timeout issues that happen with the browser upgrade has on long running queries.
