    Default IIS & MSSQL Difficulty

    I have a Windows 2008 R2 server running IIS7 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2...

I'm stuck at the install wizard "Database Configuration" step; no matter what I do, I get the following error:

"The provided database host, username, and/or password is invalid, and a connection to the database could not be established. Please enter a valid host, username and password"

On the SQL server, I get an 18456 state 8 error, which indicates a password mismatch. But... My password is most definitely correct.

Actually, I was able to solve this right now, but I will post it anyway so that someone with the same issue might be able to find it.

I changed the sa password to something simple, with letters only. It works now. Apparently the wizard can't handle certain special characters.

Thanks so much for posting this solution. I was banging my head over this same problem for hours.

I envy you guys... I got the same SQL Server error (although I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express), even though I changed the sa password to a simple letters-only one. I still can't get through the installation step where the error appears.

    Any other ideas?

I was able to solve this on my own (posting it here in case somebody else had the same issue as mine even after trying to just change the 'sa' password to a simple one, which is not really recommended)... Running SugarCRM Community Edition on Windows Server 2008 R2 | Mike Shellenberger's Blog

It's actually upgrading the Windows server with the SQL Server 2008 Native Client Tools (even if you're using SQL Server 2005) and using at least the SQL Server Drivers for PHP v2 (latest now is v3).
