Default Sugar with confixx and suphp

It's rare that I give up but I'm almost there: I do have an installation on something called a "managed server". It's a Debian Squeeze I believe but configured with suphp and confixx. But I can't get Sugar to run. www-data as user/group fails because of min_uid. If I set uid/gid down to 33 the server says it can't execute files inside path... as www-data because it's not the owner of var/www/... For good reasons I can't change that so I am stuck. I tried to switch off the suphp engine for this virtual server, to no avail. And as the standard user/group (web0 in this case) Sugar has the usual symptoms of severe permission errors (blank screens, missing css etc.).

Any idea apart from switching to one of my good old 10.04 LTS machines without any problems and one 10th of the price?

What is the error that appears in the webserver error log? Did you try setting the Sugar permissions to 755? Did you try contacting your host for assistance? They should be able to help you at least turn off suPHP.
Check out the SugarCRM hosting services from HostKnox. Free SugarCRM installation. Free SugarCRM transfer from another host.

Permission settings don't have any effect since suphp acts a bit strange when it comes to permissions above 700 as far as I know. But yes, they were set to 755 recursively. AFTER they gave me graciously and not without mentioning the now voided warranty an SSH access as root. The concept sudo doesn't exist in their world.

However - this is an extremely expensive managed server (God knows what they manage...) so if they switch off suphp they cannot guarantee for anything anymore. Or so they say.

We solved the problem by moving Sugar to a vserver for 12,90 a month - no problems any more and as save as it gets.
