I keep getting this error trying to upgrade from 6.5.8 to 6.5.11
./upgradeWizard.log could not be created/written to. Please fix permissions on your SugarCRM directory.

The installation is on a windows server 2007 machine using Faststack WAMPStack
permissions on the sugarcrm-6.5.8 folder are

    - SYSTEM = Full Control
    - TrustedInstaller = Full control
    - Creator Owner = Special permissions
    - Administrators (SERVEUR-MTL4\Administrators) = Full Control
    - the Sugar Admin user : asagala@publipage.local) = Full control
    - Domain user with full admin rights used to log in on machine : maintenance (maintenance@publipage.local) = Full control

It's complaining that it isn't allowed to create the upgrade log file in the current directory.
On windows: You could try granting permissions to the user, that php.exe is running as, to write to the current directory. See if that works.
    On linux, same idea.
If you'r running the upgrade wizard from inside the admin panel via the browser and sugar is running on linux, you should try the fix permissions script in my sig.

Still having the same problem. I gave the Sugar root directory full permission and full permission to the user php is running as.
I tested deleting the old upgradewizard.log file. Ran the update and get the same message. It was able to create the upgradewizard.log file and it did write an entry to it.
It seems to hang on this
    [UpgradeWizard] - setting session variables...

Looking at the old upgradewizard.log file, I see the same entry on all my attemps
