Default Licence for an Android client of sugar web services ?

    Hi there !

I have been working on a one week project for my company : making an Android (Google OS for mobiles) client for SugarCRM (community edition).

We want to release this project open source to the community. I have read the contributor agreement (http://www.sugarforge.org/content/co...-agreement.php) and the How to Contribute pages (http://www.sugarforge.org/content/co...contribute.php).

But, to my understanding, they talk only about contributions to the SugarCRM code, and we only use the web services.

    So, my question are :

    - Is it compulsory to release our project using the GPL v3 ?

    - Do I still use the "Contribution Form" to contribute this external project ? Should we sign and send by fax the contribution agreement before doing anything else ?

    - What should I put in the "submission" field ? Links to the sources ?

    - Should we host the project on another external forge, like SourceForge, and just provide the link ?

    - Is there any standard "license template" to put in every code file ? I know there is one for GPLv3, but here I need to add a reference to SugarCRM, so what should I write ? (I want to do things right ;-) )

Well, that's all folks, but I might come up with a few more questions later ;-)

Any answer will be really appreciated :-D .

I think you don't need to license your codes under GPL v3 because you're not extending or modifying the Sugar codes.
Look at the section below under GPL v3 FAQ.
    http://www.sugarcrm.com/crm/gplv3-faq.html#developer70

Would you like to contribute your codes to SugarCRM Inc. anyway?

Thank you, I missed that point in the FAQ ;-) . So that's cool, we can do whatever we want.

But anyway, we still want to contribute. The basic idea is that we are using SugarCRM Community edition, so we would like to give back to the community, even if it's a small piece of code. It could be then used by anyone who would want to access SugarCRM services using a Google Phone, or see how to do so and create its own client.

So we could just put the project on SourceForge and wait for people to download it, but we think it might have more impact if there was some references to it on the sugarcrm community website. So the question is : what's next ?

By the way, thank you for your quick answer :-) .

Great to hear you are working on this. I definitely suggest creating a project on SugarForge.org and posting your work there. If you are accessing Sugar only through web services, you can license your plug-in with any license you want.

I am sorry I didn't see your post Clint, seems that the email notification didn't work. So I created a new thread in the General Discussion forum, here : http://www.sugarcrm.com/forums/showthread.php?p=156003

    Hi Pierre-Yves,
Nice work on Android! Check out our new open source mobile framework at www.rhomobile.com. We are launching the 1.0 release next week. You write your app once in HTML and it builds automatically for iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Symbian and Android. We have a SugarCRM sample app too. We have great feedback from the developer community and we'd love to hear from the Sugar community.
