    Default Mixed Editions

Hi, Is it possible to have mixed versions of SugarCRM? For instance have 20 user licenses for Enterprise edition and 200 users on the Community edition. Thisis to allow account managers access to the full functionality of the Enterprise edition while the rest of the people only need access to timesheets and some project related stuff.

No, that would be a violation of the user agreement for Enterprise. All your users must use the same license type.

As an aside, CE will behave a bit funny if you tie it to an Enterprise database. I've tried this before just to see how CE would behave and it definitely had problems.

    Leibbrandt,

Angel is certainly correct about trying to do a 'hybrid' system with mixed licenses on the same database.

However, and I am speaking hypothetically as I have not tried this, it might be possible to run two systems, one Enterprise and one CE, and then use a Talend Open Studio data connector to synchronize relevant data. See here for the Talend integrations that include SugarCRM. Practically speaking, this may be a can of worms asking for trouble. But then again, depending on your requirements, it may be workable.

I believe the EULA/Subscription agreement also prevents you from using external tools that would circumvent the user restriction imposed by the licenses you purchased.

It would seem as though you might find yourself in some legal problems if you go this route.

Interesting point, Angel. Not being a lawyer nor pouring over the fine-print of the licenses, I am just speculating here.

The approach I have suggested would literally be two separate systems, one Enterprise and one CE. The CE system would, to loosely interpret Leibbrandt's inquiry, host timesheet and other data (say, info-only progress notes) while the Enterprise system hosted qualitatively greater and more detailed information. The Talend connector would only provide an automated data import-export function to allow these two separate systems to complement each other. The intent is not to circumvent the user restriction and access features that are not paid for.

Would the situation be different if the 'other system' was simply a web interface to a subset of data drawn from the Enterprise system and used by Leibbrandt to create and synchronize a timesheet/progress-report web app?

    Just thinking out loud,

Not sure, not a lawyer either. LOL

I guess the best advice we could give him would be to consult a lawyer before going down that road.

    Hi,
According to the subscription agreement, SugarCRM does not allow a Sugar Enterprise/Professional customer to use Sugar Community Edition (or Sugar Open Source). The mixed editions are not possible in any fashion under the agreement with SugarCRM.
