Sending Email with attachment from custom module

Please help

I need help, I have a custom module with a button that fires custom code. As part of this code I want to pick up a document (pdf/zip), attach it to Email Template and sent it to email address.

the button firing off custom code--can it execute php? does it just call a php file on your server? if so, you should be able to just write an email function inside that php file it's calling.

let me know if you need the code for an email, and i'll copy and paste it here. but you should be able to find a php tutorial online that will walk you through sending an email with an attachment.
