Sugar 5.5 and PHP 5.1.6

I wanted to install Sugar 5.5 on my linux box, but was looking at the software version matrix and noticed the supported PHP version is 5.2.x.

I currently have PHP 5.1.6. Can I successfully run SugarCRM 5.5 with PHP 5.1.6?

Some SugarCRM functionalities may not work properly, once it was not tested under 5.1.6.
So it is widely recomended to you upgrade your php.
