Smile SugUtils Database Backup Module - beta Released for Download

    Alrighty,

Here it is, the module is attachecd to this post and is downloadable.

This is a 'beta' testing stage, in which I'm only offering this via the forums, until I'm satisfied that all 'bugs' or 'kinks' are worked out, after which this will be going into its SugarForge home.

The license generator is available at the following link:
    {EDIT: the latest release does not require this step..}

When cutting & pasting the keycode or license, make sure that you have highlighted {blue} (i.e. selected) all of it, very important. Depending on your browser, just double or triple clicking in the text box to highlight/select it, may not work properly.

If you want to be sure, the easiest way is to click in the text box (placing your cursor in the text box), then hit the 'End' key on your keyboard, then while holding down the 'shift' key, press the 'Home' key.. After doing such, it should be selected/highlighted blue, at which point you just copy it {by holding down your 'ctrl' key on the keyboard and pressing the 'c' key}. To then paste, just click in a text box and while holding down the 'ctrl' key you press the 'v' key..

Please let me know of any and all difficulties in which may arise in your particular situation or environment!

    -----

The downloadable beta copy above is in the form of a SugarCRM 'module', not only installable via the module loader framework, but ALSO is UNINSTALLABLE, should anyone wish to uninstall it..

If you should choose to uninstall SugUtilsDatabaseBackup, be aware that such uninstallation will NOT delete any of the database backups! Though I could have designed it to delete the backups during an uninstall, I've chosen against that concept, as I want the ability to install and uninstall, at will, to be available to admins.. For many reasons you may want to uninstall and reinstall SugUtilsDatabaseBackup, including, possibly to install new versions or releases, etc.

Previous Backups remaining intact and unharmed... Why, heck, that's the whole purpose of my software and original passion for creating such, preserving and protecting, our own data.

Clarifying the above.....IF you want to delete previous database backups, you can delete them via SugUtilsDatabaseBackup or manually..

    Hi chrisky,

    Thanks for sharing your work!

when clicking to the URL for licence generator, a new widow appears. But when clicking on the button "generate licence" nothing appears in the text box.

n.b. tested with firefox and IE

    regards

Just a quick reply before heading out the door, as I have a train to catch and the notebook isn't coming with me on this trip.

You need to enter the 'keycode' into the license generator. When you run/use SugUtilsDatabaseBackup, it will give you the keycode if it doesn't already have a license.

Just run/use SugUtilsDatabaeBackup and it should make sense..

    I Hope that helps,
    Chris

    Hi
Looks like a good tool. Thank you for sharing the beta code with us.

But I've encountered the following inclusion error in many places.
    PHP Code:
    Warningbackuprestorewelcomeonly() [function.include]: Failed opening '' for inclusion (include_path='.;e:\php5\includes'in <sugarpath>modulesAdministrationSugUtilsDatabaseBackup.php on line 452

    Hi Ryuhei,

Thanks for the heads up, on the inclusion errors for the backuprestorewelcomeonly function.

Can I ask you, despite the inclusion errors, were you able to run & use SugUtilsDatabaseBackup in order to perform some database backups?

The reason I ask, is one possible problem I can forsee is most applicable or likely on Windows based systems (sorry, but WAMP's are much slower than *nix based LAMP systems in all of our experience and testing. That problem is that a SugarCRM database may be so large that SugUtilsDatabaseBackup is unable to complete the backup within the script timeout (PHP) limit in which is configured for that webserver.

Though, we've found a solution to this, it is only currently employed in SugUtils as a whole, and not this individual portion of it (SugUtilsDatabaseBackup).

Anyways, I'd really like to hear further input and/or comments from ya, as well as whether or not you have been able to complete any database backups.

    Thanks!
    Chris

I'll be working the next 6 hours on SugUtilsDatabaseBackup and releasing an updated edition.

The updated edition will not have the need to visiti the License Generator. I'm removing that from the picture.
This updated version will also have the forementioned 'inclusion' errors eliminated.

And full documentation will be included, in the form of an Acrobat PDF file.

    Hi,

Yes, I could run the utility probably without any issue. Thanks for the follow-up.

Here is an updated edition, ver. 0.81 beta

The inclusion errors you experiened Ryuhei, should not exist in this release.
As well, the need to visit the license generator page has been removed.

For those whom have installed a previous release, I would suggest that you UNinstall {via the module loader} that, prior to installing this newer edition. And be aware that UNinstalling SugUtilsDatabaseBackup will not delete any backups made; those prior database backups will remain and will appear in any newly installed newer edition of SugUtilsDatabaseBackup.

    Chris,

EDIT: An older release of SugUtilsDatabaseBackup was attached to this post but has been removed, because a newer and updated version has been released and is available from SugarForge.org

    Live Demonstration System now Online
For those whom would like to try this utility out and play with it or see it in action may visit SugUtils.com and click on the first link (link to the live demo SugarCRM system). No username nor password needed! Just click the Log In button. Then goto the Admin panel by clicking on the Admin link/button and then, obviously, click on SugUtilsDatabaseBackup.

    Just visit it at: http://sugutils.com/SugarSuite-Full-...DatabaseBackup

You do NOT need to enter any username or password.. Just click on the "Log In" button.

Updated Edition to be released 3/26
We have identified a couple bugs in which SugUtilsDatabaseBackup has problems under some commercial web host environments. We're resolving these and will release a new beta version on the 26th.

It will be later today or this evening before I have that updated edition released, and of course it will be placed on SugarForge..

In the meantime, I'd encourage everyone to visit the online and live demonstration of SugUtilsDatabaseBackup installed on a SugarCRM 4.2.1d system. You can visit it at http://sugutils.com/SugarSuite-Full-...DatabaseBackup
