Default Want to tag objects in your Sugar database ?

    Hello,

We just released the SugarTAGS module, free of charge, that you can use in any edition of Sugar (CE, Professional or Enterprise)

    With SugarTAGS, you can :
    - Tag any object (among accounts, leads, contacts and opportunities) with any keyword (you select or create the keyword while tagging the object)
    - Use the Tag Cloud dashlet in your Sugar homepage, and click on any keyword (the font-size depends of the number of tagged items) to see all the tagged objects

For instance, you organise a conference, you can tag the people who have registered, and tag the people who were present, then you can easily report on this (with professional edition of Sugar or use an external reporting tool), create target lists...

Screenshots are in french, but the module is fully available in english as well !

Project details and download at http://www.sugarforge.org/projects/sugartags/

Do not hesitate to contact us if needed,

    hello,

    i have some suggestion:

you have created individual tables for contacts, leads and opportunities.

the standard way in suggar is to use ONE table but having an additional field storing the "type".

look eg. in table: prospect_lists_prospects there you find "related_id" and "related_type".

so the "related_type" would store: "Contacts" or "Leads" ... and the "related_id" would store the "id"

    regards

I've installed the module, and I can see how to create the tags. But, how would you do conference tracking, like you use as an example? Just create two tags for "invited" and "attended"? What if you want to track multiple conferences over time. Would you have to create two unique tags for every conference? I could see having a runaway tag list very quickly!

Also, details on how to actually use SugarTags to create target lists, that you again use as an example, would be appreciated since the contact/lead query layouts haven't actually been modified to include a subquery to the tags.

    Thanks

    Hello,

    Sorry for the late reply,

Regarding your first question, you're right, you need to create as many tags as the conferences you want to follow X the status (ie registered+present for instance).
If you have many conferences and want to avoid too many tags in the tags cloud, then you need to create a dedicated module for your conferences.
(Tags are here to present unstructured data, if conferences for you is structured, ie you want to manage many of them, then it becomes structured data)

Regarding your second question, you have 2 options :
    - Use the report module of Sugar Professional
    - If you use Sugar CE, then write a query thru a BI tool or direct to the database, to fill your targets

    Hope this helps,
