2 SugarCRMS, 1 production box

Currently, I have two (2) SugarCRM boxes in production. They both serve the same purpose but have different databases. I would like to combine them into one (1) box for the sake of having a spare box I can use for development.

My logic is as follows:

1) Back up the DB on one of the production boxes ---> transfer it to the other box.
2) Modify httpd.conf to have the production box (with both DB's now on it) to listen for both hosts.

I beleive this will work, however, I wanted to run this by other people before I risked screwing up 2 production boxes.

Some points on 1)
How you are planning to transfer the DB of one box to other?
If you insert data from one db to another db many table will complain for the duplicate entry
like user table where admin has id=1.

It can be done but you have to keep many things in mind

Hi,

I am currently running 3 installations on one box with one MYSQL instance. I set up Apache virtual servers in order to save me the time of typing a path all the time and of course different dbs.

I just wonder how many instances of Sugar I could host on one machine - a question apparently nobody could answer.

I'm curious as to how you manage the plugin in this environment. Do employees only use one of them? When employees have to archive to different databases do they manually switch the plugin settings?

Im sorry, I meant that I have two databases, with the exact same tables and attirbutes, just separate from eachother.

As far as I know it is not possible today to use more than one db at a time. So if you have two environments (say two companies) you must log out and log in again. Most of us use a second implementation as development environment even though "development" in my case just means trial and error...
