4.0 Want to use mailto: email links instead of built-in email

Our sales guys are used to using their Outlook email client for sending out emails. When they click on an email address link in the 4.0 version, instead of popping up a "mailto:" type link, it simply goes to the built-in web-based email client.

Is there a way to default this back so that a user will get a mailto: link rather than having to copy/paste the email address and launch Outlook's compose message separately?

There is no easy way, just to go through each module and alter the code that creates the link.

Perhaps the developers can put this on a list of feature requests, then. I'm sure many people will not want to use the web based email solution over their existing Outlook (or whatever). It would be nice perhaps to have an admin capability or user pref that says you'll use your own client instead of the built-in browser-based client so that it will generate mailto: instead of the link to the browser client.
