4.2b --> 4.2

Hi,

Hoping to get my server from 4.2b to 4.2a I foolishly applied the 4.2a patch through the wizard, assuming that at worst, the wizard would error out. But the patch applied "successfully" and now my site comes up claiming that it will only work with a 4.2 database. Oops, my bad.

What is the best way to get from 4.2b to 4.2? Does the full install package include a database upgrade script?

Proceed like this (works for me)

1ST: DO A BACKUP OF EVERYTHING !

install the complete FULL version 4.2.0a
copy your config.php in the new installation
run the SQL script to upgrade your database from 4.0.1 to 4.2.0 (don't care about errors)

Should works

Then in the administrative interface, use the repair function...

Couldn't you guys just write a script to get me from 4.2b to 4.2? If I had known I was going to be put in Limbo I wouldn't have gone to 4.2 beta. I also tried the 4.2a patch and got the same error. Luckily I did a backup first and went back to that but it's something I shouldn't have to do.

I understand your frustration and I had the same problem. I spend one hour to find the trick and make it works... and I'm not a programmer, but I use the free version, for this a minimum of effort is needed :-)

I guess I have no choice. I will remember never to go to a beta version in the future.
PLEASE... next time you release a version that has no future upgrade, let people know up front!

I'm not trying to be mean but you should always be warry of using beta software for important business functions. It is called beta for a reason after all. It is going to be tough to fix this time but will save you many headaches in the future.

As well - Sugar is always VERY clear that there will no no upgrade paths for its Beta software - that it is for trial and feedback only.

"VERY clear"? hmmm, I must be blind then.
Seriously though, I don't want to complain and maybe I should have read into it a bit more but it wasn't clear enough to stop me during the download or install and let me know that this was the end of a path.

I thought it was pretty clear. It's the last two lines in the announcment message here. All announcements before this have had the same warning.

You are correct and I should have read more so my apologies for complaining.
Anyway, I'm up on 4.2 so all is well. Thanks all for your help (especially ymartin for the process to get myself out of my hole and everyone else for helping me get my foot out of my mouth).
