Default Allow non-admin users to edit dropdowns

Im going to be putting together this CRM in which non-admin users ( I am the only admin ) will need to update/add/remove fields from dropdowns so that they show on the whole application. And it would be users assigned to a particular role (ie Manager Role) that would have permission to do this. Obviously it will be plain too complicated to allow normal users to have admin access, not to mention a high security risk to allow them to have full admin access.

This is a pretty complex topic I imagine, because the certain parameters need to be taken into account...

-Only certain dropdowns will be editable/updatable/removable
-Only users withing a certain role should be allowed to do this

I've been thinking about creating a new "module" (not in the module builder of coarse), I mean code a separate application to allow this to happen. And it will read the php language file that contains the dropdown values and manipulate them... and also allow certain users to use it, etc... but not sure this is the right approach...

And also, these manager are going to need to be able to create new users... but since they are not admins, not through the User Management Module...

So how should these situations be approached.. has any one had any similar situations and how where they solved?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

This is quite a tough one.
If I were you I would make some serious administration-training to these managers and make them access Sugar with an administrator user.
What do you think the cookie monster eats ?

thats interesting.... if such app/module was available.... do you think people would dig it? want it? find it usable?

I just think that for some who ONLY needs to performs those tasks on a consistent basis, having access to the whole admin is just over kill... and training them "well" wont prevent from touching and investigating every little aspect of the admin, which could cause some breakdown and just give me or anyone a pain in the arse to debug.... what do you think?

I'm not sure if such a module exists.

I agree with you. Your choice will depend on what is more important: giving the managers these permissions or preventing them from messing around?
