Backing up database and downgrading

Running SugarCRM CE FastStack version on my PC - Upgraded from 5.5.3 to 6 - diappointed. Now, I have two questions

1) How can downgrade to 5.5.3?

2) How do I backup. Currently, I copy the whole directory lock, stock and barrel to my server (Is this practice any good!!). Sugar has a backup for the application but tell you to do your own back fo the database.

How can I do backup that would restore my data if I have a mishap?

1. The effort for a downgrade depends on your customizations.
If you have a native installation it is perhaps possible to run a new installation with your upgraded database (after some database changes) within 2-3 hours.
If you have a certain amount of customizations this procedure can tke 1 to 2 days

2. The regular backup is to zip the whole sugar directory and to unload the database. This zip file is generated with the sugar backup. The database must be unloaded by other tools e.g. mysql tools.

For restoring purposes it is useful to have one backup of the whole faststack installation directory in which you can restore the zipped suagr directory and reload the database.
