I have had this happen to me before if I am searching on something very vague which produces too many results. Try to minimally select a Product Category and keyword. The more you fill out (status, found in release etc) the quicker your search results and the more likely it will not time out.

Yeah, I've noticed that it helps to narrow it too. But the fact remains that it shouldn't time out at all. Sometimes I search for bugs that span multiple product categories and really cannot narrow my search down anymore than the search terms.
