Can sugarcrm do this?

I am working for a nonprofit and have been trying to implement civicrm but it is not quite there in regard to what I need it to do.

I need our solution to

1. support form-based signup for contacts that contain custom fields. This form will be standalone and linked to from other sites.

2. send automated emails when contacts are added

3. be able to track custom activities. we track when people enroll in programs, graduate, etc

4. be able to have features disabled (like the email tabs) when needed

5. be able to generate reports (hopefully automated) based largely upon the dates of these custom activities

It looks as though with a lot of customization, sugar can keep track of activities, but I am concerned about people having the ability to enter their information via a contact form. Do I need to generate my own php script, or does sugar have this built in?

Ive been playing with it (sugarcrm) for a bit now and it looks like the forms will be an issue.

I will keep playing with it for a bit (sugarcrm) and see if I dont think of something, but I dont like to mess with direct inserts via php without involving the system.

I would be happy to get feedback on this.

You can achieve the forms sign up with Mambo and the Sugar - Mambo component. It works very well once configured as serves as a very nice model for making web forms read from and write to the SugarCRM database.
