Is it possible in SugarCRM to link multiple accounts & contacts to a single opportunity? If so, how do I modify the system to achieve this behavior?
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
To attach contacts to an opportunity, after you save the Opportunity, you will notice a Contacts subpanel below the Opportunity details. Click the Select button to attach as many Contacts as you want. I
f you are in the Contact detail view, you can also scroll down to the Opportunity subpanel and select an exisitng opportunity there as well.
If you create a new opportunity using the opportunity subpanle in the contacts detail view, then the opportunity will be auto linked to the Contact and the contact's account upon save.
Out of the box, accounts is a bit trickier. You have the main account field that appears on the opportunity record. To add more accounts, you need to click into the account detail view and scroll down to the opportunity subpanel and select an existing opportunity to attach. The opportunity record will still only display the main account name, but you will now see the opportunity in the other account subpanels. You will see the multiple account/opportunity relationships in the opportunity list view and when you run reports.

Hi SugarCane...thanks for your reply.
Is this the only way to link multiple accounts to a single opportunity? This option does not provide much visibility when viewing the opportunities as to who you are working with on a deal.
We are a subcontractor. We may be bidding on a single opportunity to 15 different accounts. I need to be able to have full visibility as to which accounts we are working on that opportunity with.
It seems that most CRM packages have trouble with this behavior. I was able to modify salesforce.com to make it work...it wasn't perfect, but it was sufficient.
I hope there is a better option with Sugar.
Please help!
I also just noticed that if I follow your advice on how to add additional accounts, it shows a second opportunity record. I am looking to only have a single opportunity with multiple accounts in the system.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.
Hello,
there is actually only 1 opportunity record in the system, but it displays in the list view more than once because there is more than one account tied to the opportunity. The record id is the same. This is similar to the Contacts module when a contact is associated to more than one account.I also just noticed that if I follow your advice on how to add additional accounts, it shows a second opportunity record. I am looking to only have a single opportunity with multiple accounts in the system.
You might actually want to consider using the Projects module for this. You can attach any number of opportunities to a project, as well as any number of accounts or contacts. Take a look and see if this might work. It is hard to tell you the best method without knowing more about your organization. We are a subcontractor. I am on Sugar Pro OnDemand 5.20f, and when a user relates multiple contacts from different accounts to one opportunity, the Opportunity is counted multiple times in our reports, even though there is still only one Opportunity record. Surely the system wasn't designed this way intentionally. So.. 2 questions:
1. Does anyone know if this was intentional or a bug?
2. We would often create an opportunity and have one contact at a University, one at a Government lab, and one person from a private enterprise. How can we relate all of these contacts to one opp without using the projects module?
