Changing permissions on /cache/xml directory: is it right?

I get the following error:

Warning: fopen(cache/xml/52a129fa-1382-cf85-a91b-4370ab164162_lead_source_by_outcome_2005_11_14_201 0_01_01.xml): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/sugarcrm/modules/Opportunities/Charts.php on line 674

I chmod o+w the cache/xml directory and it works now, but I'm not sure if this a safe way.
Anybody break my doubts please?

Sorry, in the /cache/xml/ I found an index.html that says:
This directory must be writable by the webserver user.
So I think my question is answered now by this
