Question Are commercial versions of Sugar reliable?

I have been an OS Sugar user for about a week now, the OS version was a great way for me to evaluate this software before committing to 'Sugar Professional On-Demand' for my users.

What is worrying for me, is there seems to be a significant amount of (largely) unresolved issues, affecting key areas of the application.

My usage of 4.2.1 over the last week has highlighted:

    Duplicate History in Contacts
Broken cron.php for retrieving incoming emails
    Problems sending plain text emails
    Problems with importing data

I considered purchasing the 'Sugar Network' pack, but would I need to do this 4 times to get the above resolved?!

The forum community seem to be optimistic the 4.5 release will go some way to addressing these, but then the horror story's around the forum about upgrades make me very nervous!

My question is, are all these problems present in the commercial versions of Sugar?

Any function which exists in both the OS and Pro/Ent versions is done with the same code in both versions - so likely any bugs in OS are in the other.

Sugar Network gets you one case - and I suspect these issues would be more than one case. But an issue does not need to be a case for Sugar QA to be interested in it - they are fixing bugs reported in these forums all the time. I think it is more a case of you seeing a brand new release - before it 'settles down'. A lot of users are still happily running 3.5, for example.

4.5 is definately going to deliver a number of really important enhancements to the system capabilities - the new studio and custom front page layout for each user are key features. And no doubt there will be many bug fixes as well.

Thanks. At least I know not to rush out and buy Pro until things settle down!

It seems to be a great product, let down by a handful of pretty critial issues.

Andy is pretty pathologically focussed on quality - I think you will see these issues are fairly short-lived.

    Michael,

just took another look at info@hand. It looks promising. However, it's got the sort order problem that sugar in Version 4.2 -4.5 has as well.

How come your users aren't complaining?

That is a major issue in the user interface if the sort order is not remembered.

Hi longreach, I suppose pathological would be a good way to put it!! I've heard it expressed in other ways, too!!

Anyway, along those lines we've just now refreshed the Release 4.5 Community Preview. I encourage everyone to be as pathological as me and to report issues you discover while playing with the latest version.

You can find out more about refreshed Release 4.5 CP here.

    Sort order issue still there.

Attach a couple of notes or dicuments to a contact or case. Sort them differently (i.e. after the name).

After you are done - refresh the browser.

I have a case that I use for a client to attach documents to track them via the person and the account. As soon it gets to the point where you have lots of notes, there is almost no way to find them.

It's been mentioned several times in the general forum by multiple users.

I hacked in a sort-order fix that has been working for us. Check the other Thread where I was the last replier, I think it's called "Sort order problem fixed'.

Indeed sugar (the Pro version included, which we have) still has MANY outstanding bugs/flaws/etc. that are embarassingly bad considering how mature this product is supposed to be. It does have some strong suits but still needs fair bit of work. We've done some fairly extensive customizations to this end, fixing many things which are still not even fixed in 4.2.1 (we started at 4.0).

Here are three separate threads devoted to the infamous Sugar CRM "Liew View Sort problem". None of which contain any hope of this major issue being fixed in any upcoming Sugar releases. Commercial nor Open Source. This is on my wish list and many others. big time.

    Team,

This issue will be resolved in 4.5. We are introducing the concept of saved views ( saved searches ) which allows to define one or many views for a search result or list view. The cols can be defined , search criterias can be defined and even the sort orders can be defined via an ORDER BY criteria. There can be multiple views defined for a list view.

Ex: My Support Centric view , My Sales centric view etc.

Please check out the CP or beta product thats scheduled next week.

    Thanks
    Manoj
