Contact Vs Leads??

Contacts Vs Leads


In the sugar manual it says “A contact is any individual who is a valid sales lead” I can’t see anywhere to convert a contact into a Lead so I would have to enter the details twice to turn a contact into a Lead. If this is the case why bother creating a contact in the first place?


Can anyone shed any light on this? What is the advantage of adding a potential customer’s details in as a contact and not a Lead? Or is there a way of turning a contact into a Lead?

Hi Deland02, I boil it down to this.

• A Lead is transient whereas a Contact is sticky.
• A Lead can be converted to a Contact, not vice versa.
• A Contact can have important objects associated with it, like Accounts whereas a Lead cannot.
• A Contact can have a specific role on an Opportunity, and a Lead cannot.

Overall, the progression of your selling efforts mapped to individuals can be:

Targets (in Campaigns) -> Leads -> Contacts

Sugar is flexible so you can use all, either, or none (and use just Accounts, for instance).
