Smile Contacts import on community edition

    Hi
We have the free community edition 5.0. We recently tried to import allof our contacts form a .csv file. We matched up the headings and then proceeded to import. It then goes to a screen stating that the import has started with the date and time. Then it does not do anything else. No contacts uploaded? Any ideas?

This is usually the result of one or more of the following:

    1. Improperly formatted data, such as values with commas in them or multi-line field values such as notes

    2. PHP Configuration. Max execution time setting can affect this. There is another setting whose name escapes me this moment but also can affect it, I believe it is upload size or something to the effect.

Sugar recommends importing 1000 records at a time, although the system administrator can set a maximum of 20,000 records to be imported at once

Cool Re: Contacts import on community edition

I've run into this a few times.

What trips me up is apostrophes in one of the text fields. For example, if the account name was "Joey's Pizza"...Sugar would choke on import! Same with "Bob O'Connor".

When I run into trouble I usually break the import file up and import in chunks. That way, when the first batch goes in successfully, I can save the layout, and then just repeat until I find the problem.

    Good luck.

I believe that was a bug in some versions. If you are experiencing while on current release, it would seem like it came back.

Does it give you an error message when it's finished? If you click on view the error, it will open up in a spreadsheet and you can pretty much see what is causing the problem.

A lot of mine were caused by:

    1) The inport field not listed in the drop down when using drop down selection method.

    2) Too short a field

    3) Lastname is a required field
