    Default Contacts as individuals

    Hi,

I was wondering how other Sugar users deal with contacts as individuals - they do not belong to a company account.
A couple of ways that I can figure out:
    - create a contact with no account information
    - create an account with the same name as the contact and link the contact to it. In this case what happens if the individual is also a contact for a company: create a relation (Member of) to the company he works for or not?

    Thanks,
    George

    Hi George,

In the config.php file three is a parameter 'require_accounts' => true. I have never tried out what happens when this is set to false.

Maybe this solves the problem, let me know!
    Cheers Malcolm

    Hi Malcolm,

Thanks for the answer. Actually, I was more concerned on the business, rather than the system side. I've just read another post where an user said he needs no accounts at all. It may be the perfect solution for his business model, but certainly not for ours, where I tend to believe that it's better for an individual to have an account (with his own name). I've created a matrix chart that hopefully helps on this.

In our system it's possible to create contacts without link to an account, so the parameter you mention may have another role. I suppose that the settings in the config.php are not yet documented.

Hi george_bbch, let us know what you find with the require_accounts setting. I'll be honest: I never tested this in QA during my time in Egr. And I recall an Egr once saying that the app could break b/c the association between some bojects to Accounts, such as Cases, may fail.

IOW, this setting may have fallen into total disuse.

Hi Andy, as I've already created contacts w/ blank account info and the setting is (by default and unchanged) true, you're quite right and there's not too much left to find out.

    Cheers,
    George
