    Default Contributions?

Does sugarCRM accept contributions to the open source edition of the software? I'm writing a module, and planning another, and I'm concerned that every time a new version comes out I'll have to reapply my changes. I would rather just contribute my code back and have it become part of the main project.

    Hello jthurman,

Yes, we definitely accept contributions. The best place to send them is dev@sugarcrm.com (with some explanation, of course!) Thank you,

A products module, which is almost done, and then a mass mail module.

As soon as I can figure out the right way to send changes, I'll be happy to post what I've got.

Which I suppose is worth asking: It's easy enough to zip up the modules/Whatever directory and send it to people, but what about the changes that are made to the core? For example, I've had to add a get_products() method to the Contact class, and had to make the necessary changes in the /include directory to make the module work at all. What's the proper way to distribute such changes?

Is your mass mail a mail merge? or email marketing module? I'd love to implement and test if you make it available.

    Thanks!

I haven't started the mass mail module yet. My personal goal is to be able to send an e-mail to certain groups of customers, like all who have purchased a certain product, or all who purchased a certain version of a product but haven't upgraded to the newest version. Getting my products module finished is priority #1, and then I'll be figuring out the best way to do the mass mail.

That said, it will probably be an e-mail marketing module, at least for starters.

Have you looked at the Products capability in Sugar Pro? Would it be suitable? Or are you trying to achieve something quite different?

i would love to help test it out. Also you might want to consider the possiblity that they are not selling products but services. That would be an absolute plus.

As for the additions to the core...each time i make a module or component for a program and i have to edit the core i include an additional document other thne the readme.txt called core_changes.txt which list the version of the file that was edited and from line x through line y

    Hope that helps.

Maybe I could be of some help. I currently have SugarCRM and a program called SendStudio linked together. When I enter someone into the database either by importing, through our contact page on our website, or manually, they are automatically entered into our mailing database and from there we can pick and chose who and what we send them. We have a newsletter that goes out monthly, we also send them a welcome letter when they sign up <are converted> and more.

When you get to this point and want some help let me know..

    Thanks!
    Jamie

I'd be interested in learning how you are integrating with send studio. I've been trying to find a way to integrate with jangomail (jangomail.com) so that my lists are synced. In a dream world I'd be able track the individual opens from jangomail into the history of that record in jangomail but I'm not sure that i have enough knowledge to make it work.

Any info you have would be great.
