Convert Lead to Contact

I'm using Sugar OS 4.5.1. When I convert a lead to a contact in Sugar, it duplicates lead to a contact. The result is a lead and a contact with the same information. Most CRM I know just convert a lead to a contact without duplication. Is this intentionally designed by Sugar team or is it can be setup?

Yes, it is intentionally designed that way. Maybe you can delete leads once you've converted them?

I thought I had read that the reason for this is for Campaign reporting and tracking where the leads came from, but did not make sense to me either.

Perhaps a comment on the logic behind this from the Creators?
