Default Convert Lead to a Custom Module...

Let me begin by saying that I am brand-spanking-new to SugarCRM. I have clients asking me about web-based CRM solutions, I knew OF Sugar and I downloaded and installed it on my laptop yesterday. That being said...

I created a new Package called "Loans" with a new module called "Loan Mod" and Loan Mod is of type "Person." A couple of questions:

    1) I want to be able to convert a Lead to my new Loan Mod type. How can this be accomplished?
    2) How do I add something like a questionnaire to a Lead?
    3) Can I do billing/invoicing type stuff with Accounts?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Has anyone successfully converted a bunch of existing blog posts from the Blog module to custom content types? Can anyone share step-by-step instructions?

With all goodwill ... you need to play with sugarcrm a little bit longer. But to answer your questions:

    1. No .. the lead conversion becomes type contact/account .. you'd have to do some very funky coding to change this
    2. create a custom module of type questionnaire and create a relationship to the lead
    3. yes ... there are some invoicing modules in sugarforge .. download them and find one that suits your business model.

    Thanks, salesagility. One more questions:

Would it be possible to create different "types" of accounts each with unique custom fields?

You would need to give more detail about the business requirement before I could answer that ... what is it that you're trying to achieve?

Alright, I created a module called questionnaire and created a one-to-one relationship between it and the lead. On the lead screens, however, the questionnaire doesn't show with its fields. There is simply a control to select an existing questionnaire. Looking at the studio, the questionnaire fields are not available in the Detail or Edit views. How do I add questionnaire fields to the Lead screens?

I am sensing that these are rather elementary Sugar questions. Is there a good book or some other resource you could recommend for getting me started? I looked on Amazon and most books seem to cover only 4.5 and down. The only book that didn't, received a single terrible review (it was a Dummies book). Recommendations?

Book - The Sugar User and Admin manuals on SugarForge are very worth reading. There's a commercial book on installing Sugar that I read a few years ago ... but it was a waste of money .... I don't know about the Dummies book.

So, you created the module ... and Deployed it?

    Run Admin>Repair>Quick Repair

    Goto Studio>NewModuleName>Layouts ..

Are there no views for editview or detailview?
