Converting custom fiels from Target to Lead

I am a new, but excited, SugarCRM user. I created a custom field in the Targets Module. Can that field (and the data in each record) be converted to the Lead and Then Contacts module? Specifically, can it be done without programming? Your generous help is welcome.

I've done some research that suggests that if I create the same custom fields in each module, the data will convert. I will need to confirm this. Any suggestions are still welcome!
