    Default Current Clients vs Prospective Clients ?

    Hi SugarCRMerz

    I am in the middle of setting up SugarCRM for our company as an upgrade from Kolab.

    I thought I had everything sorted, however I have found a fundimental problem with the way I was intending to use Sugar!!

    I need to split sugar in to two main groups.

    1. Current Clients
    2. Prospective Clients

    I am using Accounts for Current Clients and Leads for Prospective Clients, however if I wish to use the Opportunities (in order to use the graphing) it makes me turn my Prospective Client (Lead) in to a Current Client (Account)... Which at this point, Its Not!! Its still a prospect!!

    What are others doing in this situation? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Use the Account Type drop down to differentaite the different types of Accounts, prospects, customers, competition etc. You can add values through the drop down editor in Admin.

    On a side note:

    I kept losing information when converting leads to opportunities (most of my leads are 'warm', so they are already opportunities).
    I would convert lead and all my custom lead fields did not carry over.

    I figured out you have to create the same custom fields in opportunity for the lead ones to carry over.
    What a pain!

    we have discussed the possibility of creating a completely separate copy of the 'Accounts' tab for current clients, because our sales process and current customers require a completely different set of information and set of records. The only real overlap is Contacts. Is this even feasible? I realize it would be a big project, but if possible, it would probably make a lot or sense for us in the long run.

    Thoughts?
