Custom Field Search

Sorry if this is a stupid question but i am just evaluating Sugar and have worked out how to add custom fields on contacts but i cannot seem to be able to search on them. Can you customise the advanced search page?

We are a UK charity that really only uses contacts.

Yes the searchform can be modified to search on other fields. It has to be done manually however, there isnt a config page or anything
