Default Custom fields not showing up

I am trying over and over again to create a custom multienum ("multiple select") field in my Accounts modules (detail, edit, and search views). Each time I create a custom field, it shows up in the Toolbox when I do the Design View, but it doesn't show up in the other views. Even after I save it in the Design View, when I come back it is no longer associated with the data string. Are these bugs or is there a work-around? I would like to have the exact same field in all three views, associated with the same data string.

Here's a related question: Is there anyway to recover standard Sugar fields that I have deleted, and that no longer show up in the "deleted fields" part of the Studio toolbox? Is there any way to cut-and-paste a field from one view to another?

    Thanks!

    Eric

Sure is.. A few ways of doing it..

In sugar 4.5 there is an import/export of custom fields, function in which you should give try..
You should/might (don't remember without checking firsthand), but I'm pretty sure you will have to open the exported fields file in order to 'search & replace' the modulename with your desired module's name, before you import that fields file.

And for custom fields, there is a file which contains this config info, of which is NOT the vardefs file but I believe it was named fields_meta_data or something, . If you need further explanation on 'searc hing for it' you really should read one of my previous posts..

Default Re: Custom fields not showing up

so basically what you are saying, if I may simplify is that when you create custom fields they will only ever show up if you import a CSV with those fields. and that if you make custom fields they will never show up if you just want to create a, say lead one at a time without using the import feature.

and that if you want custom fields to show up you have to get your hands dirty and mess with the code, by changing say leads to a custom module and then try and tie it back to the main DB. so assuming that you want homogeneous data across all modules you are in for a bit of work.

just an opinion, but with this huge shortcoming I am surprised at the popularity of this CRM. if you have a sales organization you generate leads, process leads, and then convert leads into accounts. Obviously the default fields are not enough, you should be able to ad fields and then populate them across the whole crm.

not to knock sugar specifically but it seems as a lot of CRM's are not made in the real world.
