Default Custom Layouts based on criteria

We would like to have separate layouts based on a criteria.

For example, an account where type=manufacturer, we would like to show custom_field1 and custom_field2.

For an account where type=retailer, we would like to show only custom_field1.

Additionally, custom_field1 is a pick-list. Only choice1 and choice2 are available for manufacturer accounts, but choice1, choice2 and choice3 are available for retailer records.

One option is to add some javascript to the edit/detail views and if the type is set to a certain value then either hide or show just that field.

Default Re: Custom Layouts based on criteria

I find it hard to believe that different record types are not supported. Maybe a better example is an opportunity.

We sell products and services. The services are based on the #hours to complete a project.

    • For a product opportunity, there are fields that relate to the cost of the item.
    • For a services opportunity, there are fields that relate to time.

Having these fields mashed into one opportunity-type will be confusing to most sales teams. Being able to identify the opportunity-type and then complete the fields that match what is being sold.
