custom sugar saas?

Hi.
I would like to build a custom application based on sugarcrm for the optometry vertical market. I would like to offer the application to doctors as a SaaS (software as a service). Can sugar CE be configured to run as a cloud?

For instance, Dr Smith logs in at drsmith.optometrycrm.com while Dr Jones logs in at drjones.optometrycrm.com. Both websites point to the same instance of sugar, but they each have access only to their own data.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to how I might make this happen?

You are free to do with it as you wish, so long as it adheres to the guidelines set forth by the AGPL license under which Sugar Community Edition is governed. That would include the sharing of your customizations to a degree.

If you are unfamiliar with the nuances of open source licenses, specially AGPL, I would strongly advice you to first sit down with a qualified attorney.

The technical aspects are much less of an issue as your only limits would be your ability to modify the code or your ability to pay someone to do it for you.

SaaS is an leading to the commoditization of some classes of software. I think investing in open source is one of the best way to build robust hosted applications. SugarCRM is an open product that can be purchased as a hosted application.
