Customer Segmentattion and Customer Target Lists.

Dear Sir,

I am absolutley new to sugarcrm. I have installed open source CRM and this arrangment is new in Pakistan.

I want to know as what is the best way to arrange customer database while dividing customers in segmentations.

We have already a lot of customer contacts from different sources.

Arranging it on the basis of lead source doesnot seem to be appropriate. I want that when I want to see all Govt institutions on my contact list, I can see it. If i want doctors on my contact list, I can see it.

Microsoft Outlook has such facility like categories.

Can anyone guide regarding best way to add customers in segments and if I want to send email newsletter to a particular segment, I can do it without any cumbersome procedure.

Hi baber,

You can add custom fields to keep track of contact types (segmentations) to the Contact screens and then add it to the search screen so that you can search for just Doctors, Gov, etc.

Thanks for the help. Can u guide in following matters also?

1. How we can send email to a particular segment only? or the only way is to adding those contacts to target list which is cumbersome process? I mean to say that is there any way to have particular segment in particular target list automatically?

2. Is there anyway to add particular contact in two segments? like a doctor can be in a Govt organisation? OR a doctor can also be included in Laptop clients segment.

Not sure if you're a coder or not but for #2 download the code from http://www.sugarforge.org/projects/exchangesync and check out how contact types are added there. This module will let you associate a contact with unlimited segments or contact types. Or just create a module and set up a relationship between your Segment module and contacts. Then you can associate contacts with as many segments as you'd like.
