Customising "Contracts" or other modules?

OK, ,I work for a small advertising company. We are evaluating SugarCRM, so far it looks great. My problem is we do 12 different publications per month. Customers have the option of advertising in 1, 2,... up to all 12 publications. They can also run different sized ads with 3 different color options in each publication. This comes up to 324 different combinations. I need to be able to do a report to tell me which accounts are signed up to advertise in a single publication for a single issue and what size ad they are scheduled to run. I am confused on how to customize the contracts module (or other module if it would fit better) to be able do enter this data and then easily search it for each issue of each publication.

you can customize the search and default fields under admin: studio. i am still trying to determine if how upgrades are going to go as im doing similar mods. i am under the impression that repurposing of existing fields is easier to maintain than new custoim fields, but dont have a definite answer on that yet.

i have in the meantime gotten some idea on how the changes are tracked in the filesystem, its pretty cool actually from what i know so far.


having someone experienced to help w/a rollout will definitely make for a better experience
