    Hi!

The community version is actually a quite nice and complete tool by itself, it can fit pretty much any need a small to medium company can have. Obviously, the paid versions have a lot of extra features, the full list all that is located HERE, you can compare your CE with this and get a general idea about it.

Comparing those to a CE version might give quite a shock, but in a very raw view, SugarCE lacks the Reports, Products, Quotes, Contract modules, some Project module graphics, the mobile access, the offline clients, the self service portal, the MSOffice plugins, the Teams, field level security, and well... quite a lot more...

All this features come handy when your company is quite big, however, the CE version can be enhanced by customization, adding extras from SugarForge or SugarEchange, logic hooks, etc. Its Open Source nature lets you play with the code so you can extend your CE pretty far.

The choice of a free or paid version comes, for me, to the size of your company, the amount of data you handle and the way the company works. Yes, the paid versions are awesome but the CE is pretty awesome as well.

I hope this helps, I'm not expert but i find the CE version quite charming, is nice, simple and above all, its a rad tool for almost any company.

    Hello,

I am interested with the differences from CE to Pro.

We are Pro Paid users and somehow happy/unhappy with Sugar.

So far I see that Pro version we pay for lets us have support from Sugar, but we also pay a fee to our intergrator for support.... So seems we are paying twice for support.....

The link that JackPK posted is the difference between the 4 paid version, but what are the differences with the CE version, for I have never seen the CE version. Are there limits in number of OPP, contacts, accounts, leads etc ?

    Thank you

    Have a nice day

There are no limitations in terms of number of records or data storage capabilities in CE.

So basically the difference resides in how deep you can customize or make automations with Sugar. Found the differences at this link : http://media.sugarcrm.com/datasheets...parison_CE.pdf

CE there are no workflows and no custom reports, no outlook plugin.

So basically CE is fine if you do what it does. And pro and beyond is what you need if you want sugar to work for you.

I couldn't work now without workflows or custom reporting.

    Just a quick question :

Are different level of users available ? I mean, we at sales in our company need the Pro version for sure, and we use it to it's full extent. We also feel Sugar would probably benefit other groups in our company but on a lesser degree. Those other groups would use Sugar to consult records, tasks assigned to them etc. but setting everyone else on sugar Pro would mean at least 20 more licenses..... yikes.

So is there a way for just consulting records and maybe create oppurtunities to have some users on CE and the main workers of Sugar in Pro ?

    Thank you

Not really, it's an all or nothing proposition. That said, for the cost of a PRO license ( less than $1 a day per user ), it's fairly cost efficient considering everything you get for it.

Thank you John for your answer.

For 8 users that uses it constantly 1$ a day is well worth it, but we are talking of 20 others users for just consultation or smallish record creation, that is not worth it in my opinion.

    Thank you again.

You may want to also consider a few shared user accounts, if you have users that won't need to be accessing the system at the same time.

For me the most advantage of PRO version is the reports module, it allows end users to create their own reports, because it users sugar metadata info over modules and relationships, then users can select the desired info without worry with database details.

This is the only PRO functionality that is really complex to implement manually, and if needed I think is a good idea pay for it.

All other modules PRO exclusives as Quotes, are nice, but could be easialy developed on CE or installed some public module as Open Quotes and Contracts (OQC).

So this is what it came down to for us: Automation and IT support. We don't have an in house lamp developer, and our company is small enough to keep our IT issues something we hire contractors to handle. An IT contract with a SLA that comes as part of the hosted service, plus tech support, made it worth it for us to take the plunge.
