I see the "Document Module" referenced in the manual, but I don't seem to see the shortcuts on my install. Is there something need to load to get this functionality, or am I just totally confused?

What version are you using?

Im the same - Ive just started using sugar professional - v 5.5.1 and I cant see the documents module either - is there somewhere else that I should be checking?

It's disabled. Go into the admin section under configure tabs and enable it there...
