Default Email Handling and Auto Assignment to Sugar Contacts

I'm going to be working on modifying the Inbound Email module to do one of the following:

What do you guys think of these features? Has anyone modified it to do this?

    1. Email Auto Assignment
Automatically archive incoming emails to recognized contacts (where the email address of inbound email and contacts) match.

Then delete the rest of the other emails and have outlook just handle the others...

The important feature here is having sugar archive your emails automatically then deleting off sugar . Right now you can check mail manually and it does auto assign... but it doesnt delete the unrelated emails. See http://www.sugarcrm.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8888

Pros: If you select to Leave Messages on the Server when configuring pop your messages will just copy to Sugar
Your contact related emails only are stored and sugar's email inbox is kept cleant
Cons: all the others are deleted/archived

    2. MS Exchange/Pop 3 Inbox Synchronization

Another solution is to only delete messages manually, while synchronizing your email so outlook and sugar always have the same inbox.. Right now you can download messages or leave them on the server... Downloading means Sugar will have a copy of your email and outlook won't. Leaving a copy on server means sugar and outlook will have the same set of emails.

I want to make th email module bidrectional so that if deleted of Sugar it deletes the email item from your pop3 account and vice versa...

I want to try adding this feature to make it so if you delete a message of sugar it will delete from the server pop3...
Example of this is in outlook... remove from server only if deleted....

Pros: your outlook and sugar mail are in sync and you dont need to bother with buggy outlook plugins at least for email
Cons: none that i cant think of

    Hi,

We're working on something to achieve something similar - though via another method. We're intercepting all incoming outgoing emails (archive style) and are to automatically assign these against contacts and users if they match (using mysql and or soap). That way, someone can email from outlook or blackberry and it still gets to sit in sugar. Don't know if it's going to be too bespoke to us to be worth publishing and will need to check with management re that policy.

Anyway - a thought about full, automatic email integration between exchange and sugar where they are automatically archived... Be careful that some private emails don't get pulled in and shared to all. The last thing you want is a customer complaining to a manager about a sales guy being assigned to that sales account viewable by all etc. You might need specific policies for users, setting team/role rights to read emails etc.

I would like to see as much information automatically associated as possible. For example, when an email has been matched to a case or a contact, the account associated with the contact is also associated to the message. And when quick-creating Cases, I would like to see the Contact and Account assigned automatically.
