Default Field level security in SugarCRM Professional?

    Hey everyone,

I think it's professional I'm referring to, the $30 a month one. I have a trial of Sugar right now but it's enterprise. I'm just wondering if with professional I can do field level security and if so how it works?

In Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 it has field level security, but the actual fields are all visible to all users, it's just the values show up as ****** to them. Is that how it would work in Sugar?

What I would really like is the ability to take Opportunities for example, and then create a tab on the top with custom fields, but have that tab completely invisible to non management users.

Or ideally what I'd like is that the tab is visible, but to management users it shows ALL custom fields in one layout, but to non management users, such as the opportunity owner, it shows a different custom view this time only with fields for them.

So for example, under opportunity there's a custom tab "Compensation". If I go into it, I might see fields like:

    Cost
    Profit
    Sales Rep Commission %
    Sales Rep Commission value

But then if the owner of the opportunity goes into it, they only see:

    Sales Rep commission %
    Sales Rep commission value

With the other 2 fields hidden.

And then if a non manager, and non owner of the opportunity goes into it, it either shows nothing, or it only shows the 2 Sales rep fields, but they are blank or *****.

My biggest thing is I'd like management to see all fields, but owners to only see a few fields, with non owners able to see the same fields as owners just empty or grayed out. Curious how Sugar handles that? Thanks!

The feature does exist in Pro (and other commercial editions).

If memory serves me, it removes the field from view altogether.

The rules for which fields are displayed/hidden is controlled via the Role Management tool under Admin > Role Management. There you will see a listing of security options for each module and if you click a module name all the way to the left, you will then also be able to control security on a per-field basis for the given module.

The security rules will be applied to any user that is made a member of that role. You can add a user to the role by means of the "Users" subpanel at the bottom of the role definition screen.

That's great thanks just tested that works good! Is there any way to limit fields by owner? What I'd love is to have all management compensation fields hidden to non managers, but then have a field that shows sales rep commission payout but only have that visible to managers and the owner of the opportunity?
