Unhappy Google Docs and Calendar Integration

    Hi,
I'm starting to use SugarCRM (community edition), however, I need to integrate it with Google Apps for Business. I know it is possible, I found many tutorials and videos showing how to use this integrations, but I cant find any documentation about how to install or enable Google integration.

I need to integrate my SugarCRM with:
    - Google Docs - to store proposals, contracts and others
    - Google Calendar - to adjust meetings and phone calls agenda

    How can I do that?

    Thanks

    Hello juliosene,

For setting up Google Docs, please visit this link to our Documentation that explains how to setup External Accounts in your User Profile - User Management - SugarCRM Support Site

The current 'Google Calendar' integration allows iCal users to sync their Sugar Calendar to their Google Calendar. This is a one way sync though, and cannot pull events down from Google Calendar. This section of our Documentation has additional details - Getting Started - SugarCRM Support Site

While these are both pointing to our Professional version, the setup steps should be the same in Community Edition.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Juliosene,

It is possible to connect your Google account to SugarCRM by going to Profile > External Account > Create (Select Google in Application drop down). You simply follow the instructions to set it up correctly. This should allow you to sync contacts and calendar events!

Unfortunately, there currently are Enhancement Requests related to Google Docs and SugarCRM:

If you want full synchronization you will need a 3rd party solution.

Thanks for all support. What I need is very simple thing, however I canīt find: I need to use a link (Google Docs Document) as "File Name" field.

I know that the best scenario is a complete integration with google docs, but I cant justify buy a professional licence of SugarCRM just for it. So, to be simple, my question is:

Can I change the "File Name" field to donīt be mandatory?
Can I add a new field to Documents area (Document Link)?

    Thanks.

Yes, you should be able to unset File Name as required in Studio. At the very least you can do it via a custom vardef for that field. Same with adding a new link field.

    eggsurplus, thanks a lot!
I have already created a new field to "Document link", however, I cant find how to disable "File Name" as mandatory. I tried to find this field in Studio > Documents > Fields, but isnt there. Do you know where I can find it?

If you can't unset it by clicking on the field name in studio and unchecking the "Required" box then you can always do this via code. Here is the gist of how you can do that: Required field need to remove

I understood how create, edit fields and remove the "Required Field" checkbox, however, I didnt find the field for "File Name" field into the Documents -> Fields list (Studio > Documents > Fields). Do you know where I can find the field correspondent to "File Name" ?

It will have to be done via code for File Name. The post I linked to will help get you going that direction. There isn't a non-coding solution, it appears.
