Does the open source version include a help desk system (where customers can email/or use web form to open a help ticket and request customer service)?
If not - can anyone recomend a good alternative?

You can use the Open Source Mambo portal with the Open Source version of Sugar. It offers the ability for customers to file Software Bugs or Service Cases, and check on their updated status.
