Default How can I access the sugar CRM remotely?

    Hi everyone,

I have already installed the SugarCRM Open Source (Version 4.5.1d) through rPath Linux Installer 4.5.1d that has in the SugarForge download page.

After this I can access the SugarCRM from my network area but How can I access the sugar CRM remotely? I mean, outside my network area, is it open for access?

    Thanks in advance

You would need to configure your router/firewall to allow Internet traffic to come into that server hosting your Sugar installation. You might also need to adjust your config.php file for Sugar to make sure you are pointing the host name to the right IP/name which can be resolved from inside and outside your network.

In addition, I'd highly recommend you use SSL. Otherwise, Sugar usernames and passwords are passed in clear text.

In simple terms, I registered crm.ourcompany.com with our public IP address of our firewall. The firewall takes incoming traffic and translates it to the private IP address of the sugar server. I used an article from neilstuff.com to enable SSL on apache and issue my own certificate. This method worked well because we have traveling sales people that need to access sugar from any internet enabled computer.

Alternatively, you could just set up a VPN connection to your firewall and access your sugar server directly at its private IP. Then, you need not bother with translation or SSL.

    Thanks Angel,

Which parameters do I need to change in the config.php file so I can make sure I am pointing the host name to the right IP number ?

    Many Thanks

Well, I can't even ping that address so start with making sure that this is a valid IP address.
