Why do you want to do that?
A lead is only a contact with a yet not full qualified account.
If the account is already known you have a contact.
Is there anything you cannot do with a contact?

I have a full sales group of 8 people - So lets say someone gets fired or we RECYCLE that lead for the group and I want to return that contact to a lead state so that other people will work it.

I would look more at changing the contact's status or something. As was mentioned a lead is just someone not associated with an account.

Following on what Jerry posted, the Contact hasn't changed his/her relationship with your company, you're just changing the sales rep who works with that customer.

I would think you would want to keep that contact as a contact (because he or she has that relationship with your company, as opposed to a lead which may not).
