How do you create a lookup

When entering data I want to select from a drop down selection field (I know how to create this) and when you select one of the drop-downs it calls and writes another selected item field. For Example drop downs numeric 0001-1000 in another field those code equal another word, 0001 always is aaaaa for example.. How do I create this. Hope i've defined clearly.

You can't do this via built-in functionality. A future release will allow you to do this out of the box, but for now, you have to do it manually by customizing the corresponding edit view for the module you wish to which you wish to apply the functionality.

Search around in the forums a bit. I recall others having posted similar needs and examples on how they accomplished it.

Are you talking about dependent dropdowns?
If yes so DevToolKit fits your needs.
