Default How long is a backup supposed to take?

    Hi,
I have the opensource version 4.1 or 2 i believe.
I went to admin and then backup and started a backup almost 5 hours ago and it is still going.
The file is now in the 200 meg range and the service "apache" is tapping out my server at 99.0 percent.
This is running on a 2.8 gig with 768 megs of ram. Is this normal or should i stop the backup and try a different aproach?
If i stop this is it going to screw something up?
    Thanks for your help.
    Andy

    Something wrong there!

The sugar backup just backs up the webserver files. So you can do that yourself by backing up all the files in the installation directory.

Either way, you need to back up the database. There are various ways to do this - manually controlled or scheduled. Have a look on the mysql website for details of using the raw toolset. Alternatively, you can install mysql admin tools like phpmyadmin (manual backups), navicat (great - manual or scheduled) and even mysql's own admin tool.

If you use backup systems like backupexec or arcserv, there are plugins for these too.

Ok, it finally finished. It took over 7 hours and the backup file was 270 Megs. This is my first time trying to do a backup through the web interface so I dont know what to expect. Is this a normal size and time for this process? I am going to use PHPmyadmin to back up the database also, but i wanted to be thourough and do the web backup also.

I don't normally use it - but that's far too long and far too big. Try opening up the archive it creates and see what's amiss.
