Arrow Implementation of a user tagging mechanism

    Hi

What do you think of the implementation of a user tagging mechanism in Sugar CRM like the one on http://del.icio.us ?

Users could give their own tags (or keywords) to the memos they have created in Sugar CRM and retrieve more easily their memos by searching on those tags.

    Thanks in advance,
    Céline.

I would think implementing a full text search would be a better option. MySQL offers fulltext indexes but there is some limitations . the tables indexed must be MyISAM tables and can index column types of CHAR, VARCHAR, or TEXT. The other problem is it is not portable to oracle or other databases. I am looking into the ability to preform fulltext searches and the potential of doing some soundex varations to locate similar sounding words.

    Cheers,

    Max

Question Re: Implementation of tagging mechanism

    when is "soon"?

this would be a great feature to make classifications without a fixed, predefined set of classes and semantics. - please implement this very very soon

    greetings,
    dave

Three simple buttons in List Views that handle this issue equally well and win the hearts of less sophisticated users:

    1. "LOOKUP TAGGED"

    2. "OMIT TAGGED"

    3. Add lookup to Group ( a group could be a "Target List" in Sugar)

I know this because I'm an ex-ACT! Consultant, and have been trying to move customers to Sugar OS & Professional eds. This is proving to be challenging because the features are not there yet.

    CASE:

How can an impatient sales rep build a list of contacts in sugar and omit a few contacts??

    1. Generate initial query in zucker reports or in Professional's reports engine
(this in itself may require about 5 steps
    2. Add it to a Target List
    3. Go into target list and remove some contacts

This is enough to drive an ex-act user nuts!!

    ACT!
    1. LOOKUP > BY EXAMPLE
    2. Tag contacts you wish to omit & choose "OMIT TAGGED"
    3. Right-click and choose " Add to group, send merge ... etc.

** it seems like there are a few degrees of seperation between some of the workflow and the true nature of a CRM user. I'm here to stay, but I have a good year worth of work to even get close to ACT's 'user-friendlyness'.

3 Years later tagging is still not implemented. How long do we have to wait?

    Hi,

With either multi-select boxes or with the module builder we have been able to build different tagging functionality for our different customer base.
    Cheers Malcolm
