Import scripts

I'm looking at a project that involves loading a large number of existing records (500k+) into Sugar and I've found that the existing import tools aren't really suitable. So, I'm looking at either writing or finding some very basic scripts to load data into the leads and accounts tables. I haven't spotted anything from searching the forums, it looks like people use phpmyadmin or a similar tool to do this and since this is a function that's part of a regular business process I don't want to make a utility part of the mix. So, does anyone know about an existing set of scripts to do this?

I visit this forum almost daily and I follow sugarforge.net (have done so quite some time) but I have not seen script that you are probably looking for. This is not to say there isn't one; I might have just missed it.

If I have not been able to use SugarCRM's import tool then phpMyAdmin has been my choice as well. Then again, my data import needs have been somewhat modest.
