Default importing contacts with german characters

I've imported several hundred accounts and contacts sucessfully. These accounts and contacts are in the german language. Every where I have any "strange" german characters üößä The import messes them up like MŸnchen should be München Gšttingen should be Göttingen. Is this a configuration setting I missed in Sugar or is it a db setting? I'm currently using MySQL charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8) in mysql. The sugar version i'm using is Version 4.0.1. Any help would be appreciated.

Default Re: importing contacts with german characters

Importing german "formatted" addresses into sugarcrm is working with the so called Umlaute.
In my best oppinion your specified settings are correct and you should not observe any "Umlaute" problems.

    How do I import ?

    1. I create a comma separated CSV File. Pls. open the file with an editor and check out that really a commy has been used as a field seperator. If not, do a quick change with find and replace.

    2. I noticed on my Suse 10.0 system that the Umlaute in the CSV file were not shown correctly by my editor Kate, but when I imported the records into sugarcrm everything was per4fectly "transcoded", the äöß ÄÖÜ chars were showing up correctly.

Good luck... it should work. Let me know what kind of operating system you are using if you still cant make any progress.
